OPTIMUS PRIME [KRE-O]

Back then , this Kre-O set was one of the largest kits available before the subsequent Constructicons set appeared in the market containing up to 542 Kre-O pieces.

First let's have a look at Optimus Prime in vehicle mode. The team at Kre-O have done a good job in designing Opimus Prime to resemble the G1 version.

There is a certain degree of rotation possible at the base of the hub cab connecting to the trailer.

At the rear of the trailer, the vehicle plate shows "Optimus Prime". The door of the trailer is actually held shut by a small flat piece situated at the top of the trailer. You'll have to remove this piece in order to split open the trailer.

The sides of the trailer can be opened up to reveal the storage area for you to place the two motorcycles and a couple of Kreons.

Towards the end of the trailer, you will see part of the control station.

Now let's take a cliser look at the hub cab.

One good thing is that the wheels of the truck are not obstructed by any Kre-O piece when you move the truck around. As you can see, there are not just two but four doors on the hub cab. You'll know why soon enough.

The rear portion of the hub cab can be removed to form a mobile control station.

The mobile command center can actually be opened up & there is a rear storage compartment at the back of the station to store weapons for the Kreons.

Now let me tell you about the major letdown of this kit. My Kre-O set is short of an Optimus Prime Kreon! I've heard from a few other collectors that their Kre-O kits were missing on their Kreon figures & I never expected that I would hit the jackpot on this.

To make things worse, I only opened this set a couple of months after purchasing it. From what I recall, this was the last Kre-O Optimus Prime kit on the shelves at one of the Toys R Us outlets. Hence there's not much I can do about it since there aren't any other kits & the receipt has been long gone.

Nevertheless, I have a replacement Optimus Prime Kreon.

 

Behold, the Kreons that come along in this kit. The Optimus Prime Kreon in the picture is actually an exclusive figure with an open matrix chamber. The normal Optimus Prime Kreon will have normal window panels on the chest. Besides Optimus Prime Kreon this kit also comes with two stunt drivers, Skywarp & Bluestreak.

The three main Kreons that come with the kit are Bluestreak, Skywarp & Optimus Prime.

Here to taking a closer look at the individual Kreons.

Next, we finally take a look at Optimus Prime in robot mode.

Prime stands at the height of your typical leader class figure. Being such a huge figure, I have to admit that there is much resemblance to the movie version of Prime, with the chicken feet and the glass windows that stick out from the chest.

The ball joints are very tight so you don't have to worry about posing this figure.

With the robot mode done, the remaining pieces of the trailer can be dismantled to form a command center. This play set consists of the main controls stacked onto a series of base plates connected to a small weapons depot consisting of small red pegs for you to hook your weapons onto.

There is a small opening at the cockpit of the center where the Kreon can actually look out.

Here's the two sets of weapons that I have not removed. They are exactly identical to the set that comes with Kre-O Sentinel Prime.

This is not a must have Kre-O set, but it's definitely a set to consider for hardcore Prime fans. The only trouble is, I'm running out of space & can't seem to find a place to specially display my Kre-O collection, let alone a Kre-O diorama. 

Hence, do be careful if you're going to keep them in your graveyard. Be sure to pack them up nicely as not to miss out any pieces. Otherwise, you're going to have a hard time selling them off in the future.

KREON OPTIMUS PRIME

This Kreon is actually a Toys "R" Us store gift for shoppers that purchased Kre-O products exceeding a certain amount. However, I was fortunate enough to purchase it on eBay for a very good deal. The box is actually sealed on the side so you'll have to use a blade to open up the cover.

Here's a close up of KReon Optimus Prime.

Kreon OP is exactly the size of a Lego figure. All the parts (helmet, smokestack, wheels) can be taken apart. I actually purchased two of these as I intend to sell one off perhaps later in the future.

KREON MICRON-CHANGERS (PREVIEW SERIES)

Today, lets take a look at some Kreons. This is the first wave of Kreons that appeared in the market & is known as the Preview series. There are 6 blister packs for you to collect.

Upon closer inspection, you'll see that each random blister pack has a different code at the bottom. This code varies from country to country. Hence, these toys are not so random after all. In Malaysia, they are as follows: (21371 X). X is represented by six different numbers: 0, 1, 2, 7, 8 & 9. Hence the six different figures of this preview wave.

In each blister pack, the pieces are sealed in a small transparent bag that comes along with the instruction manul to build the Kreon.

This is the back of the instruction manual showing all six Kreons to collect. Without further ado, let's have a closer look at each of the Kreons from this wave.

1) A1007 Spinister

Spinister comes in the form of a helicopter. However, I don't think I've ever heard of this character prior to this.

In robot mode the landing ramps of the helicopter form a huge double barreled blaster.

2) A1008 Galvatron

Very similar to the actual Transformers, we see Galvatron here in the form of an artillery cannon. The third image above, you'll see that Galvatron's helmet doesn't actually form part of the vehicle mode.

In robot mode, the artillery legs form what looks like a jet pack for Galvatron.

3) A1009 Sunstorm

Next we have Sunstorm, one of the few Seekers. In vehicle mode, again the helmet of the Kreon doesn't fit in vehicle form.

Once transformation is complete, the excess parts become a hand weapon for Sunstorm.

For comparison purposes here's Sunstorm next to another Seeker, Thundercracker.

4) A1010 Crankstart

Crankstart, yet again another character that I've not heard of. In vehicle mode, this bot looks like a dune buggy to me.

In robot mode, there are three pieces that become redundant. If you take a closer look, the helmet reminds me of the Transformers Headmasters series.

5) A1011 Scorponok

Finally, my favourite of the lot. Scorponok looks menacing both in beast & robot mode. In scorpion form, the legs don't make the cut.

In robot mode, the funny thing is that there are remaining pieces as well. It would have been nice if they could find a way to minimize the excess pieces. Do be careful when transforming Scorponok though. Mine has shown some stress marks at the arms where you attach the claws.

6) A1012 Waspinator

Waspinator is the last of the lot for this wave. The wings actually look more like flippers to me.

In bot mode Wasponator looks more like Green Lantern than a green hornet to me. If you haven't noticed, the helmet mold is actually the same as Kreon Jazz, hence the sharp visor.

Having done reviewing them individually, now let's take a group shot.

Currently, I've already picked up quite a number of Kre-O sets which include Optimus, Sentinel, Megatron, Ratchet, Starscream, Prowl & Sideswipe. Now all I need is the time to assemble them to be reviewed. Stay tuned!
