YUUSHA DX BRAVE FIGHTER OF SUN: GREAT FIGHBIRD

The final post of the three part review, let's take a look at both powered up Fighbird & Granbird.

Here is both Granbird & Fighbird in their normal forms.

Image comparisons of Breaster Jet & Flame Breaster. In case you're wondering, Breaster Jet is the one on the left, that combines with Granbird while Flame Breaster is the jet on the right that combines with Fighbird. Both of them are about the same size.

When combining both robots, Fighbird's arms flip forward.

Granbird on the other hands flips open in two, & you actually split the legs off into two parts after that.

This is the top portion of Granbird attaching onto Fighbird.

The bottom legs of Granbird folds down to attach under Fighbird.

United & combined, these two toys form Great Fighbird!

Great Fighbird stands more than a feet tall overshadowing all the Transformers Masterpieces or even Perfect Grade Gundams. Granbird's arms now become laser cannons that mount onto the shoulders of this huge robot, but keep reading because there's even more.

Side view of Great Fighbird. Although this robot is tall, the cannons at the shoulders doesn't make this robot look too skinny & thin from the side.

The Flame Sword attaches onto Flame Breaster to form a huge sword for Grand Fighbird. This is done by connecting one of Granbird's guns onto the back of Flame Breaster & attaching the sword to the tip of the gun.

The other gun is then attached behind Breaster Jet to form the Flame Shield.

This is Great Fighbird standing tall & mighty. Even though there isn't much articulation on this robot, I just wanted to own it because it reminds me of my childhood days. Seriously, I don't remember watching the cartoon but I remember seeing this robot at supermarkers where they used to sell Japanese candies.

As we come to the end of this three part review, you'd have to be amazed at the creativity of these toy designers back in the late 80's & early 90's to be able to conceptualize something like this. Below are links to the previous two posts if you want to take a better look at the individual robots.

YUUSHA DX BRAVE FIGHTER OF SUN: GRANBIRD

This my dear friends is the Fire Shuttle, from the animated series Fighbird.

This set comes with stickers for you to apply to give the toy more character.

Included in this toy is another Yutaro Katori figure, the alien Fighbird spirit that controls both the Fighbird & Granbird. This figure flips down to form the engine for Granbird.

This is where Katori is attached onto the Fire Shuttle.

The Fire Shuttle is assisted by Breaster Jet, a smaller plane that packs some fire power.

Other angles of Breaster Jet.

Here we see that Breaster Jet is attached onto Fire Shuttle at the top of the plane.

Both these jets clip on tightly so they don't fall apart easily. As a matter of fact it takes some strength to take them apart once they're attached together. The wheels at the bottom of the jet protects the toy from scratches if your kids were to drag them all over the floor.

This is Granbird. The second robot that Yutaro Katori can combine with. In terms of articulation, only the lower arms can move.

Up close with powered up Granbird.

Granbird comes with two blasters called the Shine Dart & Gran Attacker. Both these weapons combine to form the Gran Attacker.

Here's some images of Granbird. I'll be posting more of Granbird in the upcoming related post where we will take a look at Great Fighbird!

YUUSHA DX BRAVE FIGHTER OF SUN: FIGHBIRD

This toy originates from the animated series The Brave Fighter of Sun Fighbird that was first aired in 1991. The funny thing about this animated story is that the time of events is set in 2010. It's now 2013 my friends.

Fire Jet looks like a futuristic supersonic plane. Both the front & two rear landing gears can be flipped down.

The cockpit opens to fit the pilot in.

This is the secondary plane, known as Flame Breaster. Even though this toy was in MISB condition when I bought it, due to the age & probably humidity you'll see that the yellow sticker are slowly bending out. I'm trying to find a way to glue the sticker back in place while not leaving any stains on the red chrome plate.

The Flame Breaster can actually be attached onto the top of Fire Jet.

Combined, this is how they would look.

Different angles of the combined jets.

Bottom view of the rear landing wheels.

Here's the pilot. Yutaro Katori is the name of the adroid that is possesed by the Fighbird spirit, an energy-based life form from outer space. The figure can be closed up to form an engine to be attached onto the Fighbird in robot mode.

Fighbird in robot form. The engine can be attached onto the chest of the robot.

This is how Fighbird looks like in robot mode. The figure stands out in bright blue, with a tint of yellow & red. There is a sticker sheet that comes with the toy to give the figure more detail.

Here's the powered up version of Fighbird once it combines with the Flame Breaster.

Let's take a closer look at the powered up Fighbird from different angles. The color contrast is absolutely stunning on this figure.

There are twin blasters behind the arms that can be flipped forward & the  shin area holds multiple missiles.

Taking a closer look at the missile bay.

Lastly, Fighbird also comes with a chrome plated Fire Sword for close combat battles. Although I didn't follow the animation nor do I know much about this figure. I wanted to get hold of this piece because it looks cool. About four to five years ago, I first stumbled upon both Fighbird & Granbird in the market but I didn't get hold of it due to my monthly budget at that time.

Thereafter, I kept hunting for it but either the price was too high, or the condition of the toy wasn't great. It was until the end of last year that I chanced upon this set again & at the same price that I was willing to pay five years ago! This time, I had to get it. Both the Fighbird & Granbird were in MISB condition when I bought them.

Stay tuned for the next two posts where I'll look into Granbird & combining them both to form the Great Fighbird.
